What are departmental lockups?
The University of Warwick’s brand logo set consists of two graphic elements: our Wordmark and our Crest. Lockups combine the University wordmark with your department name in a consistent layout. They are the official way to represent your department within the wider University of Warwick brand, and using the correct lockup helps keep Warwick’s identity clear and professional, while giving your department its own recognisable presence.
How to access your lockup
Each department will be provided with its own lockup package via email. This will include the crest in all of the formats required.
Please contact the brand team with any queries, or for new requirements (e.g. partner lockups, third-party collaborations)
What’s included in your package

Things to keep in mind
Using your lockup correctly
Always use the version supplied by the brand team. Do not create your own versions.
Choose the correct file type for the medium (print vs. digital).
Our Responsive Crest has been designed to maintain its visual appeal and clarity in smaller formats. We use our Responsive Crest across web, digital and particular printing situations where it provides the optimal solution for capturing specific details
Before publishing any branded material, check that your lockup has been applied in line with the Brand Book.
Support and approvals
The Brand Team is available to review and advise on any artwork before it’s published, whether created in-house or by an external supplier. This ensures everything stays consistent and on brand. Please build a minimum of five working days into your project timelines to allow for this.
If you’re unsure which file to use, or if your project has unique requirements, please contact the brand team as early as possible - we can advise on the best approach.
For templates and additional guidance, visit the Brand Portal.
Transition period
Where previous lockups exist, we ask that all digital materials are updated to the new lockups as soon as possible.
Printed materials should be updated when stock runs out — please use up existing supplies before reordering with the evolved brand.
Brand Governance Process
Use of departmental lockups must be compliant with our brand governance process.

Yes. The Crest and Wordmark must always appear together on all assets produced by the University. The Wordmark is our primary identifier, and the Crest supports it as part of the same brand system.
They can sit separately within a layout; for example, at opposite corners or edges, but both must be present. Neither should ever be used independently, unless explicitly specified in the Brand Book.
In small digital or print formats, use the Responsive Crest (included in your package) to keep the design legible.

Departmental lockups are available for academic departments and faculties within the University of Warwick. Lockups are not created for projects, initiatives, or services. The brand system is flexible enough to give these activities their own look and feel using colour, imagery, and messaging, without the need for a separate logo.
If you’re unsure whether your area qualifies, or you have questions about naming conventions, please contact the Brand Team for advice.
